Tschetter, a junior
elementary education major from Spearfish, won a $500
scholarship, and Broome, a senior biology major from
Takini, won a $150 book certificate. The BH students were
asked to write an essay detailing the impact their
participation in the Student Support Services program had
on their college careers. TRIO refers to three programs :
Upward Bound, Talent Search, and Student Support
Services. The TRIO label was born under the 1968
reauthorization of the Higher Education Act which brought
the three programs under one umbrella. Today, however,
the TRIO program is really five programs. The Higher
Education Act of 1972 included Educational Opportunity
Centers and the McNair program as part of the total
offering. |
