Christmas Concert is SundayThe annual Black Hills State University Christmas Concert will be Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. The concert is open to the public at no charge. The Christmas Concert will feature the Black Hills State University/community band, Black Hills Singers and the concert choir. Story The fall band concert program, under the direction of Dr. Randall Royer, will begin with For the New Day Arisen by Steven Barton. Band selections include No Shade So Rare by G. F. Handel, arranged by Leland Forsblad; Sleepers, Awake (Wachet, Auf!) by J. S. Bach, arranged by Alfred Reed.; And the Mountains Echoed: Gloria! by Robert Longfield; Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, Amazing Grace by Frank Ticheli and Radetzky March by Johann Straus, arranged by Alfred Reed; and William Tell Overture by G. Rossini, arranged by Robert Longfield. The Black Hills Singers conducted by Stephen Parker will perform Ubi caritas by Maurice Durufle, A Hymn to the Virgin by Benjamin Britten and The New Sounds of Christmas arranged by Gene Grier and Lowell Everson. The Concert Choir under the direction of Stephen Parker will be performing Gloria . The choir is accompanied on the piano by Janet Roorda and Jamie Sowers. This selection includes Gloria in excelsis, Et in terra pax, Laudamus te with Ranae Hofer and Bethany Krska-Hanson as soloists and Sandra Asheim on piano; Gratias agimus tibi Propter magnam gloriam , Domine Deus with Carol Reausaw as soloist and Marianne Bieber on piano; Domine Fili Unigenite ; Domine Deus, Agnus Dei Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father with Kristine Schaffer as soloist; Qui tollis ; Qui sedes ad dexteram with Andrea Fischer as soloist and Priscilla Romkema on piano; Quoniam u solus sanctus ; and Cum Sancto Spiritu.
