Cross country team heads to nationals - Top

A season of hard work and dedication is paying off for the Black Hills State women's cross country team as they leave this week for Kenosha, Wisc., host site for the NAIA national cross-country meet.

Coach Scott Walkinshaw believes the BH women are peaking at the right time based on their recent SDIC championship performance. Five Yellow Jacket women, led by senior Lisa Bomengen, crossed the finish line among the top eight runners.

Teammates Jesse Palczewski, a freshman from Reeder, N.D.; and Monica Headlee, a junior from Kadoka followed Bomengen with third- and fifth-place finishes.

Rounding out the top eight finishers for the Lady Jackets were Mary Kate Guilfoyle, a senior from Noxon, Mont., in sixth place and Elise Pfefferle, a freshman from Cheyenne, Wyo., at eighth.

Seven team members will be making the trip to Wisconsin including Penny Hendrickson, a freshman from Toquerville, Utah, and Nikki Underwood, a freshman from Brookings.
