Marion, Ind. – Wendy O’Lexey defended her title from a year ago and won the marathon in 2:57:59.01 at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.  O’Lexey won national title in the marathon in 2009.

Marion, Ind. – Shannon Hellman won the 100-meter hurdles after running the event in 13.45 seconds at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind.  Hellman nearly broke the NAIA record of 13.33 set in 2004 by Davetta Shepherd from Lindenwood during Thursday’s prelims when she posted a time of 13.37.

Pueblo, Colo. – The Black Hills State women’s track and field team tied for first place at the CSU Pueblo Invite with Fort Hays State scoring 83 points.  The men’s track and field team tied for 11th place.

Dickinson, N.D. – The Black Hills State men’s and women’s track and field teams travelled to Dickinson, N.D. on Friday to compete in the Blue Hawk Games.  The men’s team finished in second place with a score of 182 points and the women’s team placed third with 99 points.

Seven members of the Black Hills State University men and women’s cross country/track teams competed in the Warrior Half Marathon hosted by Midland Lutheran College. The half marathon serves as a qualifier for the 2010 NAIA Marathon which will be run at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next May in Marion, IN. Six of the seven runners were under the qualifying times of 1:14:00 and 1:33:00 respectively for the men and women.

The Yellow Jackets were led this past weekend with a strong showing by senior Trent Waage from Aberdeen, South Dakota by winning the marathon with a time of 2:28:27.00.  Junior thrower Jason Boeding from Caputa, South Dakota placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 178-00.

Aubrey Baxter (Redfield, SD) has qualified for this year’s Olympic Trials in the shot put with a throw of 54-00.50. Aubrey is a junior and the second current NAIA athlete to qualify and the first Black Hills State athlete to reach this milestone. Aubrey will be leaving for Eugene, OR on Saturday, June 28th and will compete on Thursday, July 3 at 9:20 pm. Junior Aubrey Baxter is on her way to the Olympic Trials. Junior Aubrey Baxter from Redfield, South Dakota won the National Championship in the hammer with a throw of 198'9" and in the shot with a throw of 51'3/4". The Black Hills State University track and field teams had an outstanding conference meet in Jamestown on Sunday. The Yellow Jacket women won twelve events to capture their third consecutive conference outdoor championship scoring 279 points while the men won six events in finishing runner-up for the third consecutive year with 162 points. The Black Hills State University track and field program, in conjunction with Lean Horse Productions, will host the inaugural “This is MY Year” run/walk on New Year’s Day at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish.

The “This is MY Year” program is a fitness program designed for all levels. Jerry Dunn of Lean Horse Productions came up with the idea for “This is MY Year.” According to Dunn, the sole purpose of this new event is to encourage everyone to start the year in a positive way.

Spearfish, S.D. - The 16th Annual Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction will be held Friday, Nov. 3, 2006 at the Spearfish Park Pavilion. The Gold Dust Yellow Jacket Auction is coordinated by the Yellow Jacket Foundation in an effort to raise scholarship funds for Black Hills State student-athletes.
