Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men’s and women’s cross country teams anxiously await the beginning of the 2010 season.  The women’s team will begin their season on Sat., Sept. 4 in Billings, Mont. with a triangular meet against Rocky Mountain College and Montana State University-Billings.  The men’s team will see its first action on Thurs., Sept. 9 when the Yellow Jackets will host their only home meet of the season.  The Yellow Jacket Invitational will be run on the golf course at the Spearfish Canyon Country Club.

Spearfish, S.D.- Black Hills State University women’s basketball Head Coach Mark Nore is pleased to announce the signing of Jordan Kent of Gillette, Wyo. Kent, a 6’1 forward/post, is a transfer from the University of Nebraska Kearney.  While a senior at Campbell County High School Jordan averaged 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game while posting 60% from the field and 85% from the line. Jordan also led her team to a Wyoming state championship.

Four members of the Yellow Jacket cross-country team participated in the 12th annual Race for the Cure, held in Cheyenne, Wyoming this past weekend. The Black Hills State University track and field program, in conjunction with Lean Horse Productions, will host the inaugural “This is MY Year” run/walk on New Year’s Day at Lyle Hare Stadium in Spearfish.

The “This is MY Year” program is a fitness program designed for all levels. Jerry Dunn of Lean Horse Productions came up with the idea for “This is MY Year.” According to Dunn, the sole purpose of this new event is to encourage everyone to start the year in a positive way.

Black Hills State University inducted five individuals and two teams into the 2006 Yellow Jacket Hall of Fame during Swarm Week recently. Inductees as athletes were: Jeff Englund and Leslie Deutscher-Merrill. Inducted as coaches were: Ernie Mecca and Terry Burgess. Inducted for his outstanding contributions and service was Jim Alcorn. The 1970 football team and the 1928 men’s basketball team were also inducted.

Before the start of the NAIA national cross country meet, held this past Saturday in Louisville, Ky., the Black Hills State women's team was ranked sixth and the men were tied for 10th.
