The Yellow Jacket football team left last Friday morning for Jamestown College who was sitting on top of the Dakota Athletic Conference at 7-0. “I felt we had a great week of practice. Our veteran players knew how big the game was going to be on Saturday and that raised the level of practice. We also got an emotional lift from seniors Andy Seamann and Tanner Tetrault who were able to play through injuries on Saturday” said Coach Scott. The Yellow Jackets went on to win the game by a score of 19-16 which improved their record to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the DAC.
Offensively the Yellow Jackets were always able to counter the Jimmies momentum swings with big plays. Freshman Tanner Ehrlich led the Jackets in rushing once again with over 100 yards. “We were able to complete 50% of our 3rd downs, which was huge in the final drive securing the victory for us” added Coach Scott. The Yellow Jackets went four for four in 3rd down conversions on their final drive.
Defensively we had great pressure up front from Andy Seamann, Wacey Coleman, and Rodney Wasche. Our linebackers gave us good pressure and coverage throughout the game. Our Secondary was really solid getting back senior Tanner Tetrault from an injury. The Yellow Jackets never let Jamestown get behind them for big plays. “As the game went on we were able to be really physical with their receivers which wore them down in the fourth quarter” said Coach Scott.
The special teams play was strong in all phases. Junior kick returner Joe Beehler had four huge returns on special teams allowing the offense great field position. They also accounted for some major hits that were able to wear the Jimmies down.
This week the Yellow Jackets will return home against Mayville State University for “Senior Day.” Kickoff will be at 1:00pm MST.
