Volleyball Splits on the Road For Second Straight Weekend

This past weekend the Yellow Jackets traveled to Minot State University and Dickinson State University for two DAC Conference games.

Friday night the Yellow Jackets were in Minot, North Dakota as they got off to a slow start in both games one and two. “It is really hard to get up because of their large facility and a small crowd. We really lacked energy early in the match” said Coach Albers. The Yellow Jackets trailed early in both games but came back and really played well after the slow start. They Yellow Jackets dominated game three getting off to a great start and never looking back. Black Hills State won the match 3-0 with the scores being 30-23, 30-25, and 30-20.

Carina Sweet led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 13 kills, 2 aces, and 15 digs. Kristin Engle added 10 kills. Sophomore setter Mandy Brumfield led in assists with 37.

On Saturday night the Yellow Jackets were in Dickinson, North Dakota to face Dickinson State University who his ranked 6th in the nation. “We really competed well. When playing Dickinson State you can’t make mistakes and have to make plays that are tuff. We really did a nice job of that. We just made a few mistakes in our routine plays that hurt us” added Coach Albers. In games one and two it was back and forth with Dickinson edging the Yellow Jackets at the end of both games 26-30 and 27-30. In game three the score was close until the 25 point mark when Dickinson went on a strong run to close the game behind Judith Boel a 6’5” junior college transfer who ended the match with her jump serves. The final of game three was 21-30.  “Other than the serve and receive game we played them even” said Coach Albers.

The Yellow Jackets were led in kills by Kristin Engle with 10. Mandy Brumfield had 25 assists to lead the way. Volleyball will be back in action this Friday night as they will take on Columbia College who is ranked 10th in the nation. Game time will be at 7:00PM in the Donald E. Young Center.
