Jackets Prepare for Conference Opener
| September 19, 2007
Friday the Yellow Jackets will travel to Minot, North Dakota to play in their first conference game of the season. Minot State University is under the direction of a brand new coaching staff this season. “The new coaching staff has brought new energy to their program. The change in staff has been really productive” said Coach Scott. Minot State University enters the game 0-3 with losses to three really good teams in Rocky Mountain College, Bemidji State University, and Jamestown College.
Offensively the Beavers run a spread formation and really try to attack you through the passing game. Their quarterback is returning from a year ago along with two wide receivers. Under the old coaching staff Minot State was really geared around a power attack. The new coaching staff is now using their speed and athletic ability through the passing game. Defensively Minot State is a downhill football team. They put a lot of guys around the ball. “They like to stop your running game and put all the pressure on your quarterback” added Coach Scott. The Beavers have an extremely athletic defensive backfield to help with their pressure defense.
The Yellow Jackets are looking to build off of their 37-17 victory last week against Valley City State University. “We can’t allow ourselves to be one dimensional. Defensively we have to control their passing game and play team defense. We also have to execute our assignments and schemes. Offensively we have to establish a running game and not allow Minot State to dictate the tempo” said Coach Scott.
The Yellow Jackets are still evaluating a few injuries for Saturday’s game. All injuries are game time decisions. The game against Minot State University will start at 1:30 Central Standard Time.
