In the opening game of the 2007 season the Yellow Jackets traveled to Helena, Montana to take on #4 ranked Carroll College. The Yellow Jackets went into the game knowing their defense was going to have to play a great game. “We were counting on our defense to be really consistent to allow the offense some opportunities to get on track” said Coach Scott. Going into halftime Carroll had the lead 10-0. The score stayed the same going into the fourth quarter when Carroll scored again late in the game to bring the final score to 17-0.
Offensively the Yellow Jackets struggled to put a whole series together. “Our offense was inconsistent. We put together some really good plays but never really got into a flow. We made mistakes that can be corrected as we get ready for next week” added Coach Scott.
Defensively the Yellow Jackets held their own against a very solid offense only giving up one big drive. “We were able to force three turnovers and hold them on a 4th down, which showed that are defense is getting closer to where it needs to be” said Coach Scott. The special teams played a very sound game by executing and not making very many mistakes.
“Carroll College could have the best defense we may face all year. They are extremely fast and just when you seem like you have room they close in on you” added Coach Scott. Offensively Carroll is very solid as well returning a good nucleus from last year.
