Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men’s and women’s cross country teams won the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Thursday.
The No. 10 women’s team cruised to a victory scoring 32 points on the day. The Yellow Jackets placed first, second, and fourth. Abi Bever was first across the finish line with a time of 16:45.23. Lela Carpenter was second and Brooke Wells was fourth with times of 16:52.50 and 17:11.97, respectively.
The men’s team scored 28 points en route to its first place finish. The top finisher for Black Hills State was Neil Long. Long finished the 6k course in 20:47.53. Mark Wilcox placed fifth with a time of 20:56.25 and Craig Leavitt placed ninth with a time of 21:21.75. Wesley Cheruiyot from Gillette College finished first overall with a time of 20:06.21.
Black Hills State will return to action on Sept. 25 when the men’s and women’s teams will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete at the Roy Griak Invitational.
