Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State volleyball team officially started practice for the 2006 season Saturday afternoon in the Donald E. Young Center. The Yellow Jackets have high hopes this season.
“Our goal this year is to make it to the national tournament,” said senior Alyssa Boeding. “We really believe that we can win the conference this year and get to nationals.”
Head Coach Jhett Albers thought that the first practice of the season went as expected for the Yellow Jackets.
“This was a typical first practice,” said Albers. “Everybody comes out with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. Returning players know what is expected of them and are doing a nice job of leading the newcomers. We had a couple of new players train with us this spring and that has given them a leg up this fall.”
Boeding also thought that practice went well.
“We have a really talented team this year. Our first practice was good. Everyone is communicating on the court really well, especially for the first day,” said Boeding.
The Yellow Jackets will practice twice a week until next weekend when the team will travel to Dickinson, N.D. to participate in a scrimmage exhibition with the Blue Hawks on Saturday.
“I am pleased with how the first day went. Already though, I see stuff that we have to work on and areas that we can improve in,” said Albers. “Those areas will be what we focus on in practice this week.”
