Johnson City, Tennessee – The Yellow Jackets had eight women and seven men compete at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championship from March 4th to March 6th.
On the Women’s side Nikki Shinkle Finished 12th in the preliminaries of the Women’s 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:00.08, she did not qualify for the finals. The Yellow Jackets had Abi Beaver competing in the Women’s 1 Mile Run who in the preliminaries finished 13th with a 5:19.44, but she was not one of the top 10 qualifiers for the finals. Two Yellow Jackets competed in the preliminaries of Women’s 5000 Meter Run, they were Wendy O’Lexey and Leigh Anne Whiteside. Whiteside finished the prelims 18th with a time of 18:34.92 and did not qualify for the finals. O’Lexey finished the prelims in the 6th place position and qualified for the finals with a time of 18:14.82. O’Lexey finished 4th in the nation with a time of 17:43.30. Lisa Koch finished fourth in the nation in the Women’s Pole Vault with a height of 3.70 Meters. Cody Milbourn finished 10th in the prelims with a throw of 13.05 meters, unfortunately only the top 8 throwers advanced to the finals. BHSU had three athletes competing in the Women’s weight t
hrow where again the top eight performers in the preliminary throws would advance to the finals unfortunately the Yellow Jackets did not have any throwers in the top eight. Freshmen Alaina Yaracz finished 10th with a throw of 16.24 meters, Sophomore Cody Milbourn finished 11th with a throw of 16.09 meters, and Freshmen Lory Johnson finished 22nd with a throw of 14.83 Meters. Overall the Black Hills State University Women’s Indoor Track and Field team finished 19th in the Nation.
The Black Hills State University Men’s Indoor Track and Field Team had seven athletes competing at the National Championship. Laine Parish finished 18th in the Men’s 5000 Meter Prelims with a time of 5:19.63 and did not qualify for the finals. Birch Haraden also competed in the Men’s 5000 Meter Prelims and finished the event in the 30th spot with a time of 15:38.58. Senior Jason Boeding finished 4th in the Nation with a throw of 16.81 meters in the Men’s Shot Put, and 7th in the Nation in Men’s Weight Throw with a throw of 17.94 meters. Junior Cole Nicholas finished 19th in the Men’s Weight Throw with a distance of 16.35 meters. Overall the Men’s Team finished in the 38th Position at the National Championship.
The Black Hills State University Track and Field Team will now start the transition to the outdoor season and will compete on April 3rd in Greeley, Colorado in the Tom Benich Classic.
