| November 20, 2009
The Yellow Jackets entered the showdown in the Fargodome as the #4 seed fresh off their victory over South Dakota School of Mines. From the start the Yellow Jackets took control of a very physical game with the #1 seed Dickinson State University. In the first match up the Yellow Jackets had a chance to win inside of two minutes in Lyle Hare Stadium but fell short. This time was a different story as the Yellow Jackets got up 9-0 and never looked back taking the game 23-13. BHSU was led by freshman running back Cole Benne with 34 carries for 169 yards and one touchdown. The Yellow Jackets defensively held Dickinson to only 192 total yards of offense which was a key in the victory. “I was so proud of how we responded tonight after our first meeting with Dickinson. We were very sharp defensively and really took care of the ball offensively. It was great for our seniors to close their career on a positive note,” said Head Coach Jay Long.
The Yellow Jackets finished their season 6-4 and with many post season honors. Freshman running back Cole Benne, senior offensive linemen Josh Breske and Jason Boeding were named to the DAC 1st Team Offense. Junior defensive lineman Wacey Coleman, junior linebacker Forest Sainsbury, and senior defensive back Darrell Neiman were all named DAC 1st Team Defense. Senior running back Clint Nicholes, senior tight end Cliff Bryan, and junior offensive lineman Tom Owsiany were named DAC 2nd Team Offense. Freshman defensive lineman Sterling Boylan, junior linebacker Richard Fairhead, and junior defensive back Clayton Schleusner were named DAC 2nd Team Defense. Junior Wacey Coleman was named DAC Player of the Year for his efforts leading a very stern Yellow Jacket defense. Coach Jay Long finished his first season as head coach with a 6-4 record.
