Yellow Jackets Fall in Defensive Battle, Travel to Minot State Next!
| October 13, 2009
This past Saturday the Yellow Jackets were at Lyle Hare Stadium as they took on Dickinson State University. Both teams came into the contest 3-0 in DAC Play. On an extremely cold afternoon the Yellow Jackets and the Blue Hawks both struggled offensively in a defensive battle. “Going into the game we knew it was going to be very physical. Both defenses played very hard and physical and it came down to which offense could get a big play,” said Head Coach Jay Long. The Blue Hawks were able to connect on a pass late in the fourth quarter to give them a 13-9 advantage. The Yellow Jackets were able to march down the field and get to the three yard-line with two minutes to play but could not convert. The final score was 13-9 in favor of Dickinson State.
This weekend the 4-2 Yellow Jackets will look to bounce back on the road against 5-1 Minot State who is tied for first place with Dickinson State. Offensively Minot State is led by junior wide receiver Johnny Lester who is averaging over 116 all purpose yards per game. “Minot State has a lot of similarities with what we do. We both will try to establish a running game and rely on our defenses,” added Coach Long.
The Yellow Jackets will travel this Friday to Minot, North Dakota to take on the Beavers Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM CST. If you are unable to attend the game then you can view it live on the Minot State Athletic Website or listen live at KDSJ 980 Radio.
