Tuesday, October 13, 2009

The Black Hills State Lady Yellow Jacket Volleyball team turned up the tempo toward the end of the first half of their DAC conference season. The Yellow Jackets notched three impressive wins over conference opponents Mayville State, Dakota State, and rival S.D. School of Mines.

After a tough road weekend at Jamestown and Valley City, the Yellow Jackets looked intent on dominating the court at home. They first squared off against Mayville State with precision and execution from the very start. Stellar blocking by sisters Kristin and Kalin Engle helped the Yellow Jackets make quick work of the Comets as they pulled off a win in just three sets, 25-21, 25-16, and 25-14.

The Yellow Jackets then looked to continue their remarkable play against the Dakota State Trojans. The Yellow Jackets’ tough mentality and even tougher play was just as evident as ever, as the Lady Jackets took their opponent’s spirit away early and never looked back. Black Hills State put on quite the show for their home crowd as they swept the Trojans in three sets, 25-12, 25-7, and 25-20.

The Yellow Jackets then matched up in a rival matchup with their conference foe S.D. School of Mines. This battle against Tech was just as hyped and anticipated as ever as fans filled the Donald E. Young Center Gymnasium. The Lady Yellow Jackets did not disappoint, slamming ball after ball off the gym floor as they pulled away early in each of the three sets. Tech could not seem to pass the unpredictable Yellow Jacket serves as Black Hills State gained momentum after each of its seven aces that propelled them to victory, 25-23, 25-17, and 25-17.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets will enter the second half of their DAC conference season on the road against Minot State and Dickinson State. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked second in the DAC polls and will look to improve their 6-1 conference record further.
