The Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball team hit the road for their first two away conference matches. The Yellow Jackets battled undefeated Jamestown College and another tough side from Valley City State. The Yellow Jackets were not able to pull out a victory against the Jimmies, but did defeat the Vikings of Valley City to move their conference record to 3-1.
The Friday evening match in Jamestown was a tough introduction to the weekend. It was a rematch of last year’s DAC Championship as Black Hills State looked to repeat with a win in the high energy Jimmy gymnasium. However, Jamestown came out ready to play and executed well. The Yellow Jackets and Jimmies were locked in battle from the opening serve, and each game was decided by just a few points and critical errors. The home crowd and well organized offense of Jamestown proved to be too much for the Yellow Jackets as they fell in three games, 22-25, 20-25, and 22-25.
Saturday afternoon, the Yellow Jackets looked to bounce back against Valley City State. The hard hitting offense of the Vikings and a few critical lapses on the Yellow Jacket side gave the first set to VCSU 21-25. However, a sense of determination swept over the Yellow Jackets as they found consistency and confidence going into the next games. Senior setter Mandy Brumfield found senior middle hitter Kristin Engle for 19 kills on just 27 attempts. The Yellow Jackets continued to find hardwood and offensive continuity as they swept the next three sets and the match 25-28, 25-14, and 25-19.
Black Hills State will look to improve their conference record again this weekend as the Yellow Jackets
clash with Mayville State and Dakota State at the Donald E. Young Center gymnasium in Spearfish, S.D.
