The Yellow Jackets are coming off their 2008 DAC Championship and NAIA National Tournament Appearance where they finished 26-8 and ranked 13th in the NAIA. BHSU will start the 2009 season only losing one player from that 2008 roster due to graduation but gained three new freshmen that should all make an immediate impact. “We have a great group returning and some solid young players that will really play a key role in our depth,” said Two-Time DAC Coach of the Year Jhett Albers.
The Yellow Jackets will look to veteran experience behind seniors Kristin Engle from Newcastle, Wyoming, Mandy Brumfield from Dickinson, North Dakota, Carina Sweet from Rawlins, Wyoming, Kayla Haines from Mitchell, South Dakota, and Lindsey Schloredt from Sundance, Wyoming. Kristin Engle was 1st Team All-DAC, DAC Player of the Year, 1st Team All-Region, and 2nd Team NAIA All-American in 2008 and she will look to guide the Yellow Jackets back to the National Tournament in 2009. Mandy Brumfield also had a strong 2008 season earning 1st Team All-DAC and All-Region Honorable Mention honors as a setter. 1st Team All-DAC and 1st Team All-Region junior Maggie O’Neill will return to provide strength at the net.
Along with O’Neill junior Kalin Engle from Newcastle, Wyoming will provide a strong presence around the net. Other players returning with 2008 experience are sophomores Kayla Drieling from Ft. Calhoun, Nebraska, Stephanie Stull from Colorado Springs, Colorado, Brianna Gradishar from Aurora, Colorado, Katie Malin from Sheridan, Wyoming, and Gina Geffre from Pierre South Dakota. New to the program in 2009 are freshmen Kylee Lamb from Onida, South Dakota, Amy O’Neill from Martin, South Dakota, and Brittani Casados from Casper, Wyoming. All three will compete immediately for playing time.
“We are really excited to begin the 2009 season with finishing last season on such a high note. We have a great group of returners that have been the backbone of our success over the past three seasons,” said Coach Albers.
