Baxter Leads Yellow Jackets At NAIA Indoor Track And Field Nationals

Johnson City, Tenn. – Black Hills State senior Aubrey Baxter took home two national titles and led the Yellow Jackets to a number of outstanding performances at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Johnson City, Tenn. Baxter was also named as the meet’s most outstanding female performer.
Baxter placed first in both the weight throw and the shot put. In the weight throw Baxter won the event with a national meet record toss of 19.79 meters (65’11.25”). Her mark of 16.57 meters (54’4.5”) in the shot put was over 1.5 meters (15 feet) father than the second place finisher. Senior Amber Brodersen placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 14.4 meters while freshman Cody Milbourn finished 19th in the weight throw (14.74 meters) and 15th in the shot put (12.6 meters).
In other events on the women’s side, sophomore Lisa Koch finished 15th in the pentathlon with 2664 points and then placed 16th in the pole vault after clearing a height of 3.45 meters. Senior Shelli Scheffler placed eighth in the mile with a time of 5:04.92. Junior Wendy O’Lexey ran in the 5,000 meter run and the Black Hills State women’s distance medley relay also competed, however, no results were available at press time.
On the men’s side, senior Cody Bordewyk ran a time of 8:23.66 to place third in the 3,000 meter run. The men’s distance medley relay finished seventh after running a time of 10:17.83. Junior Jason Boeding placed 16th in the shot put with a mark of 15.39 meters and he also threw the weight 16.46 meters en route to a 15th place finish.
