| October 29, 2008
The Lady Yellow Jackets traveled last weekend to Valley City State University and Jamestown College for two tough conference games. Going into the weekend the Lady Jackets were 17-5 overall and 9-0 in the Dakota Athletic Conference.
On Friday, the Lady Yellow Jackets jumped out early on Valley City State and never looked back winning the match in three games. Junior Kristin Engle led the way with 16 kills on the night. Sophomore Maggie O’Neill added nine kills. Junior setter Mandy Brumfield had 36 assists. “We came out after a long road trip and played really well winning in three games” said Head Coach Jhett Albers. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Vikings 25-11 in the first game, 25-9 in the second, and 25-22 in the third game winning the match 3-0. With the win the Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 18-5 (10-0 DAC).
Saturday, the Lady Yellow Jackets traveled thirty minutes down the road to take on Jamestown College. The Jimmies were sitting in second place of the DAC behind the Lady Jackets. BHSU struggled early dropping the first two games. “We struggled early trying to get a rhythm. It is hard to bounce back in a place like Jamestown” added Coach Albers. In the third game BHSU started to gain some momentum taking the game 25-21. The fourth game went to the Jimmies as they took the match 3-1. The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by junior Kristin Engle with 19 kills, sophomore Maggie O’Neill added 10. Junior setter Mandy Brumfield had 34 assists.
The 18-6 (10-1 DAC) Lady Yellow Jackets will now return home for their final three matches starting this weekend against Dakota State University and Mayville State University. They will then take on rival South Dakota School of Mines the following week. With the loss on Saturday to Jamestown the Lady Yellow Jackets are tied for first place with the Jimmies in the DAC standings going into the final three games.
