Strong Inside Play Not Enough for Yellow Jackets!
| October 27, 2008
This past Saturday the Yellow Jackets traveled to Aberdeen, South Dakota to take on Northern State University, an NCAA Division II school that finished 29-4 last year and ranked 5th in the country at the end of the season. “It was a great opportunity to go against a quality opponent. We lost by six but it was a hard fought game. Each team had leads of 12 and 13 points and both teams battled back to make it very close in the end” said Head Coach Paul Sather.
BHSU got out to an early lead 18-7, but the Wolves cam roaring back to take a three point lead into halftime 37-34. In the second half Northern State distanced their lead to as many as 13 points before the Yellow Jackets came back to get within four 70-66. That was as close as BHSU got as the final was 74-68 in favor of Northern State.
Senior AJ Fodness led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 16 points and six rebounds, sophomore Cain Atkinson had 12 points, and sophomores Will John Johnson and Luke Enos rounded out the scoring with 12 and 10 points respectively. The Yellow Jacket post players combined to go 14-19 from the field…they had 40 points and 16 rebounds among the three of them.
The Yellow Jackets will now travel this weekend to Greeley, Colorado to take on University of Northern Colorado Saturday night. The game time is at 7:05PM MST in Butler Hancock Gymnasium. University of Northern Colorado is an NCAA Division I school in the Big Sky Conference. “This will be a tremendous opportunity to get better as a team” added Coach Sather.
