Former Yellow Jacket Runs Boston Marathon!

Former Black Hills State University cross country/track and field athlete Nikki McDaniel (Underwood) competed in this year’s 112th running of the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day, Monday, April 21st. Although getting hurt in early December and missing ten weeks of training, Nikki was able to complete the 26.2 mile race in 3:02:25 (6:58 per mile average). Nikki was the 69th female to cross the line and placed 1449 overall in the 25,000 plus field.
Nikki stated “the experience was absolutely amazing because of the course, tradition and spectators who lined the entire 26.2 miles”
While at Black Hills State University, the former Brooking High graduate earned ten NAIA All-American honors including the 2003 NAIA marathon championship. Nikki ran on four consecutive conference cross country championship teams earning Dakota Athletic All-Conference honors three times. She helped lead the Yellow Jacket cross country team to a third place team finish by placing eighth her senior year. In track and field, she won the Dakota Athletic Conference championship in the 1500 and 5000 meter races in 2003.
Nikki is married to former cross country/track & field standout Mike McDaniel and lives in Rapid City.
