Chadron, Neb. – The Black Hills State softball team split a doubleheader with Chadron State Tuesday afternoon winning the first game 4-1 and falling in the second 11-3 in six innings.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Yellow Jacket golf team has high expectations coming into the spring season. Currently the Jackets sit second in the conference trailing Minot State by only three points and they have two golfers who rank in the top 10 individually heading into the spring season.

Spearfish, S.D. – The Black Hills State University golf team finished its fall season and looks to continue improving into the spring season. The Jackets finished the fall season in second place of the Dakota Athletic Conference with 13 team points trailing Minot State by only three points. Individually the Jackets have two golfers who are in the top 10 in the conference.

Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State softball team defeated Dakota State 12-4 in five innings, and 11-5 in seven innings to complete the doubleheader sweep on Monday. After picking up two wins on Sunday, the Yellow Jackets took the field and picked up two more important conference wins pushing their DAC conference record to 4-0.

Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets swept the Dakota State University Trojans in a double header match-up. The Yellow Jackets defeated Dakota State nine-two in the first game and nine-one in five innings in the night cap.

Spearfish, S.D. - Due to field conditions the Black Hills State University Softball game times have changed as well as the location. The Yellow Jackets will take on Dakota State University on Sunday, March 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets will face the Trojans again on Monday, March 22 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.  All games will be played at the Parkview Softball Complex in Rapid City, S.D.

The Yellow Jackets concluded their season this past week with an 83-86 loss to the University of Saint Francis who eventually went on to win the 2010 NAIA National Championship.  This was the second straight year that the Yellow Jackets lost in the National Tournament to the eventual National Champion. The Yellow Jackets softball team returned this past weekend from a very impressive road trip in Tucson, Arizona to open up the 2010 season.  Coach Gurney and the Yellow Jackets went 7-4 in their 11 games in Tucson against some of the best teams in the NAIA.  “We are extremely excited about how we played in Tucson but we know that the season is only beginning,” said Head Coach Amy Gurney.

Tucson, Arizona – Saturday marked the final day of the Tucson Inviational and the Yellow Jackets finished the tournament on a strong note defeating Cornerstone 6-1, losing to Olivet Nazarene 10-2 but then bouncing back against Judson with a 10-3 victory in their last game of the tournament.

Sioux City, Iowa – The Black Hills State women’s basketball team was defeated in the second round of the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament by Indiana Wesleyan 58-50 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tucson, Arizona – On the third day of the Tucson Invitational the Yellow Jackets played three games winning one and losing two. The Yellow Jackets fell to a very good Madonna University 7-0, bounced back against Cardinal Stritch 10-0 and lost to Robert Morris University 8-2.

Tucson, Arizona – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jacket Softball team start their season off at the Tucson Invitational Tournament. The Yellow Jackets thought that if they went far enough south they wouldn’t have to deal with weather, but on their first days in Tucson had weather delays.

Point Lookout Missouri – Black Hills State University National Championship hopes were cut short by a very strong University of Saint Francis team in the first round of the NAIA national championship. The Jackets fell 86-83.

Sioux City, IA – The Black Hills State University Yellow Jackets knew that they would have to step up their game defensively if they wanted to keep their tournament hopes alive and they were able to do that against the three point crazy Eastern Oregon Mountaineers as they defeated Mountaineers 67-58.

The Black Hills State University women’s basketball team earned a two seed in the 2010 NAIA Division II National Tournament and will take on Eastern Oregon University in the first round game at the Tyson Event Center in Sioux City Iowa.

The brackets came out yesterday afternoon and BHSU will take on University of St. Francis from Fort Wayne, Indiana.  USF will come in the game with a record of 23-9 and BHSU will enter with a record of 21-9.  Tip off is set for 4:00 PM CST in Branson, Missouri on the campus of College of the Ozarks.

Seven members of the Black Hills State women’s basketball team were recently honored with post-season Dakota Athletic Conference awards.  Junior Katelynn Lamb was named 1st Team All-DAC for the second straight season averaging 14 points and four rebounds per game.

Darbi Yost has recently signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Black Hills State University beginning in the fall of 2010.  Darbi is currently a senior at Wheatland High School in Wheatland, Wyoming.
