SPEARFISH…It’s Dakota Athletic Conference Championship (DAC) weekend at Black Hills State University as the men’s and women’s basketball teams compete in championship games and the track and field teams are honored at a send-off for the national tournament meet.

The Yellow Jackets hosted Jamestown College in the DAC Semifinals last night looking to erase a loss a week ago in Jamestown.  Entering the game the Yellow Jackets were 23-6 and ranked #10 in the NAIA.

The Yellow Jackets entered the game Wednesday night 25-4 and ranked #5 in the NAIA as they looked to advance to the DAC Conference finals.  South Dakota School of Mines came into the game after defeating Valley City State University in the quarterfinals this past Sunday.

This Wednesday night the Yellow Jackets men’s and women’s basketball programs will continue Dakota Athletic Conference tournament play in hosting a pair of semifinal games.  The women will tip off the action at 5:30pm in the Donald E. Young Center as they host Jamestown College.

Black Hills State University football program announced the signing of 33 student-athletes as of Wednesday, February 19, 2009 as first year head coach Jay Long and his staff unveiled their first recruiting class for the Yellow Jackets. The class features 18 offensive players and 15 defensive players.

The Yellow Jackets entered this week tied for first place of the Dakota Athletic Conference with Dickinson State University.  Entering the week the Yellow Jackets were ranked #5 in the NAIA.

The Yellow Jackets wrapped up their regular season play this week with wins over Jamestown College and Valley City State University.  BHSU already won the Dakota Athletic Conference entering the week but knew that they needed to keep their momentum heading into the conference tournament.  Entering the game the Yellow Jackets were ranked #5 in the NAIA.

This Sunday the Yellow Jackets will begin the Dakota Athletic Conference Tournament with a pair of home games.  The women will kick off the afternoon at 2pm followed by the men at 4pm in the Donald E. Young Center.  Please check the schedule this Friday following the last two regular season games for opponents.

The Yellow Jackets came into the game Wednesday night sitting in a three way tie for first place of the Dakota Athletic Conference and ranked 6th in the NAIA.

In front of a packed house in the Donald E. Young Center the Yellow Jackets defeated rival South Dakota School of Mines Wednesday night 71-53.  Entering the game the Yellow Jackets were ranked 6th in the NAIA and on top of the Dakota Athletic Conference.

The Yellow Jacket men's and women's basketball teams will host rival South Dakota School of Mines tonight in the Donald E. Young Center.  Game times will begin at 5:30 pm with the women followed at 7:30 pm by the men.

Sophomore forward Luke Enos earned Dakota Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts this past week against Minot State University and Dickinson State University.  Enos scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Friday against Minot State and scored 22 points and seven rebounds Saturday against Dickinson State.  BHSU won both games giving them a two game lead in the conference.  With the wins the Yellow Jackets improve to 21-4(10-1 DAC) on the season.

Vermillion, SD--The Black Hills State University Track and Field teams came through with some big performances at the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational hosted by the University of South Dakota. Leading the way was Aubrey Baxter (SR, Redfield, SD) who recorded wins in both the shot put and the weight throw.

BHSU picked up a couple of key victories over the weekend to give them a two game advantage in first place of the Dakota Athletic Conference.  Entering the weekend the Yellow Jackets knew that the only way to separate themselves from Minot State University and Dickinson State University was to win both games.

The Yellow Jackets entered the weekend needing to pick up two key victories to help them move into a tie for first place.  On Friday, Minot State came into the Donald E. Young Center looking for some revenge from the previous game.  In the first half, the Yellow Jackets got off to a sluggish first ten minutes until they caught fire taking the lead into halftime 30-23.  In the second half freshman Piggy Pili led the way connecting on three shots behind the arc.

Junior offensive lineman Josh Breske from Pierre, South Dakota, sophomore running back Tanner Ehrlich from Ft. Collins, Colorado, and junior defensive lineman Wacey Coleman from Rozet, Wyoming were recently named Honorable Mention All-Americans by Victory Sports.  Click above to view Victory Sports All-Americans.
