Spearfish, S.D. - The Black Hills State women's basketball team was defeated Thursday afternoon by Biola 76-57.  The Yellow Jackets fell to 11-3 overall on the season.

Due to weather conditions the Yellow Jackets women's basketball team will now play on December 30th and 31st in La Mirada, California.  Game times are now set for 3:30pm PST on Wednesday and 1:00pm PST on Thursday.

Kelli Heiser, a senior from Watertown, S.D. has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Black Hills State University beginning in the fall of 2010.  Kelli is a member of the 2009 softball State “AA” Champion Watertown Arrows.

The Lady Yellow Jackets faced a grueling three game road trip last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Jackets took on the NCAA Division I University of South Dakota Coyotes in an exhibition game in Vermillion, SD on Thursday, they then traveled to Morris Minnesota to take on the Minnesota, Morris Cougars on Friday evening and finished the weekend against the Presentation College Saints in Aberdeen, SD on Saturday.

This past weekend the Yellow Jackets traveled to Morris, MN and Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD.  BHSU defeated The Minnesota Morris Cougars 66-61 on Friday and The Presentation College Saints 66-64 in an overtime thriller to advance to 9-4 on the season.

Lenaya Vigil has signed a letter of intent to play softball beginning in the fall of 2010 for Black Hills State University.  Vigil is currently a senior at Northridge High School for athletics and attends University High School for her academics. Both schools are in Greeley, Colorado.  Lenaya also plays for the Triple Crown Stars club team during the off season.

Senior Kristin Engle from Newcastle, Wyoming was recently named 1st Team NAIA All-American for her efforts in the 2009 season.  Kristin led the Dakota Athletic Conference averaging 1.8 blocks per game.  She also led the Yellow Jackets in kills per game with 3.5.  Kristin also was a Northwest All-Region selection and NAIA Volleyball Scholar Athlete.

Seven members of the Black Hills State University men and women’s cross country/track teams competed in the Warrior Half Marathon hosted by Midland Lutheran College. The half marathon serves as a qualifier for the 2010 NAIA Marathon which will be run at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships next May in Marion, IN. Six of the seven runners were under the qualifying times of 1:14:00 and 1:33:00 respectively for the men and women.

The women’s basketball game against Chadron State College is scheduled for January 30th, 2010 at 8 pm in the Donald E. Young Center.  There was some confusion that it was scheduled for this Saturday, December 5th.
