Alumnus uses college English assignment as foundation for two books
Thursday, January 31, 2013 Matt Schofield first met Jimmy Crammer in the late ‘60s during an English class at Black Hills State University. Crammer was a South Dakota farm boy who was drafted, sent to fight in the war in Vietnam, and comes back forever scarred. Crammer is also a fictional character and the subject of Schofield’s two published books.

Wednesday, January 16, 2013 When Black Hills State University alumnus John Johnson received the call that he would be one of the 2012 honorees for the Starkey Hearing Foundation,he wondered how a small town boy from South Dakota could receive a honor shared by former President Bill Clinton, Muhammad Ali, Sir Elton John, Willie Mays and Billie Jean King.
But Johnson soon realized that while he joined a long listof high profile celebrities they all had the same goal: making the world abetter place.

When the 36th annual Lakota Nation Invitational tips off Wednesday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Black Hills State University alumni Bryan Brewer and Dave Archambault will have front row seats, just as they did at the first tournament they organized in 1977.
The two helped found the LNI, at first named the All IndianTournament, as a way to provide play time for their basketball players. Neitheranticipated the legacy they were beginning.

Black Hills State University will once again honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to the University’s rodeo program.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the BHSU Rodeo Hall of Fame. Those eligible include: stand-out athletes with emphasis on national performers, significant contributors to the BHSU rodeo program, and former BHSU rodeo coaches/advisors.
