Students use social media to earn scholarship at BHSU

A prospective Black Hills State University student recently earned a scholarship by using her social media skills.  

BHSU recently announced that Sonja Pederson of Sioux Falls won a $1,000 scholarship in the Smile, Send, and Win social media contest.

Tenor Tyler Raad returns to perform at BHSU

Black Hills State University music and theatre graduate Tyler Raad will perform a concert Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall on the BHSU campus. A reception will follow the performers. Admission is by donation which will benefit scholarships for students of the Johanna Meier Opera Theatre Institute.


Alumni gather to run the 21st annual Stadium Sports Grill Alumni Mile
Friday, February 8, 2013 More than 40 former Black Hills State University track and field and cross country runners returned to campus recently to participate in the 21st annual Stadium Sports Grill BHSU Alumni Mile. The weekend-long event, held in conjunction with the Dave Little Invitational, included a Friday night social at the Stadium Sports Grill in downtown Spearfish, and an after-race luncheon in the BHSU Yellow Jacket Hall of Fame room.

BHSU to celebrate 130th anniversary
Friday, February 8, 2013 Black Hills State University will usher in its 130th anniversary with a Founder’s Day celebration Wednesday, Feb. 27, with a chili cook-off and a trip down memory lane with a style show featuring clothing and accessories from BHSU's past and present.


Alumnus uses college English assignment as foundation for two books
Thursday, January 31, 2013 Matt Schofield first met Jimmy Crammer in the late ‘60s during an English class at Black Hills State University. Crammer was a South Dakota farm boy who was drafted, sent to fight in the war in Vietnam, and comes back forever scarred. Crammer is also a fictional character and the subject of Schofield’s two published books.

Dale “Coach” Hardy leaves mark on BHSU athletics
Friday, January 18, 2013 Longtime Black Hills State University coach and athlete Dale Hardy, 88, died on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the South Dakota Veteran’s Home in Hot Springs, leaving behind a successful career in athletics which spanned nearly six decades.
