VAAN – Volunteer Alumni Admissions Network

Welcome to VAAN!

VAAN stands for Volunteer Alumni Admissions Network. This network is comprised of alumni who serve as ambassadors of Black Hills State University around the country and world.

We recognize that the firsthand experience and advice that a former Yellow Jacket has to share with others is the best kind of advice that can be given to our future students; therefore we are excited to incorporate the help of these individuals into our recruitment efforts.

  • The goals for our dedicated alumni are to:
    • Share your enthusiasm for Black Hills State University with prospective students considering BHSU.
    • Act as an ambassador of the University and answer questions about BHSU from prospective students living in your surrounding community and region.

We are confident that the added assistance from our VAAN members, coupled with the efforts of the Office of Admissions, will allow more students all over the world to learn about BHSU and how being a student in Spearfish, South Dakota will truly transform their lives!

Below are a few of the ways in which our VAAN members may contribute their time and effort:

  • Sharing information packets with prospective students
  • Adopting an area high school
  • Attending BHSU outreach events -  such as a BHSU Reception
  • Attending area college fairs
  • Contacting prospective students
  • Acting as a liaison between a prospective student and the Office of Admissions
  • Mentoring students about career advice
  • Wearing Green & Gold
