New First Time Freshman Admissions Requirements

Freshman Applicants: APPLY NOW |  PRINT & MAIL   

Students must meet one of the following admissions requirements:

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.6
  • Minimum composite ACT of 18 or SAT of 870
  • Class rank in the top 60% of graduating class

Students must take the following high school courses and average a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0:

  • 4 years English
  • 3 years math (algebra or advanced)
  • 3 years lab science
  • 3 years social science
  • 1 year fine arts

To become college-ready, it is recommended that high schools students complete at least five rigorous courses in key subject areas, such as the areas listed above, each semester of school. Furthermore, students should fully understand that by not completing the above courses, they may be jeopardizing their admission to Black Hills State University and may also become ineligible for certain forms of federal financial support. Student athletes may also become ineligible to compete at the collegiate level if they waive the required coursework listed above.
