Internships

Internships: The internship program is designed to provide students an opportunity to participate in an approved program with a cooperating business, governmental or civic organization as a part of his/her college degree work.  It is developed jointly by Black Hills State University and the participating organizations to:

  • Provide maximum exposure to organization and activities that relate to the intern's major program of study.
  • Provide a student an opportunity to relate his/her experiences, classroom instruction and theory to a real-life work experience.
  • Help the intern identify the personal and career challenges that exist within the business community.
  • Develop a greater sense of responsibility and maturity within the intern.
  • Develop a better understanding of interpersonal relationships.
  • Establish improved communications between the faculty at Black Hills State University and the leaders of business, industry, and various agencies at institutions, social and governmental.
  • Provide a means of keeping the institution's academic program up-to-date and meaningful.

Registration- Registration must be completed and fees paid before beginning the internship.  The student must have the approval and signature of the College Dean.

Application Process - Students interested in an internship should go to the College Office to pick up an internship booklet and green internship registration form.  Faculty members help students identify the internship opportunity and final approval comes from the College Dean.
