BHSU Theatre and Music departments collaborate on production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”
Thursday, February 13, 2014 The Black Hills State University Theatre and Music departments will present “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Performances are Thursday, Feb. 20 – Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in the Pangburn Hall Theatre.

The Black Hills State University photography student Julieanne Morse from Spearfish recently returned from a nine-month deployment with South Dakota’s National Guard 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment where she teamed up with a broadcast journalist and documented the daily lives of the troops.



BHSU honorary alumna Johanna Meier receives Lifetime Achievement Opera Award
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 Johanna Meier, internationally recognized opera star from Spearfish and Black Hills State University honorary alumnus, was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Opera Association in New York City. The award recognizes Meier’s outstanding career achievement and her continuing presence in the education of young singers.

BHSU to host guest pianist Susanne Skyrm

New BHSU lecture series celebrates faculty accomplishments and highlights research
Monday, February 3, 2014 The Office of Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University is pleased to introduce a series of faculty presentations titled “Celebrating Accomplishments.” Dr. Adam Gaffey, assistant professor of rhetoric and philosophy, begins the series Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 3:30 p.m. with his talk “Visualizing Washington’s Union: Repetition and Display of a New ‘Farewell Address’ for the Civil War.”

BHSU professors tell their immigration stories in new Matthews Opera House exhibit

Four Black Hills State University professors along with several other Spearfish residents will share their stories of immigration to the United States through an exhibit at the Matthews Opera House Gallery titled “Over Land & Sea: Immigration Stories of Spearfish.”

The opening reception for the exhibit is Friday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the Matthews Opera House Gallery. The exhibit will be up through Feb. 22.

Monday, January 27, 2014 Black Hills State University student Raquel Sweat, music education major from Broadus, Mont., is one of five students who will participate in a master class with Vadym Kholodenko, the gold medal winner at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

BHSU Ruddell Gallery exhibits collaboration of three South Dakota artists
Wednesday, January 22, 2014 The newest exhibit at Black Hills State University’s Ruddell Gallery features the debut of the first series of collaborative work of three South Dakota artists. The exhibit, titled Blood Run Artworks of the Big Sioux, runs through Feb. 7 with an artist talk in Woodburn 309 Thursday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. During the talk the three artists will present a slideshow on their collaboration and process.

BHSU announces fall 2013 dean’s list
Thursday, January 16, 2014 The Office of Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University has released the dean’s list for the fall of 2013 semester.  A total of 722 students maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or above while taking at least 12 credit hours to be named to the list this semester.
