BHSU ‘Dancing with the Staff’ event raises more than $500 for Rancher Relief Fund

Nearly 200 Black Hills State University faculty, staff, students and community members were present to cheer on their favorite dancing duo at the first annual “Dancing with the Staff” fundraiser.The event, sponsored by the BHSU University Programming (UP) student organization, raised $530 for the South Dakota Rancher Relief Fund


BHSU professor to serve as interim associate dean at USD School of Law
Tuesday, February 25, 2014 Dr. John Henry Glover will serve as interim associate dean at the University of South Dakota as a national search is conducted to fill the position made vacant with the retirement of associate dean Tom Sorensen at the end of December. Glover will be on leave from Black Hills State University where he is a professor of American Indian Studies.

Black Hills State University faculty, staff and students will be swinging, jiving and tapping their feet as they battle it out for the coveted BHSU mirror ball trophy while at the same time raising money for local ranchers. The Dancing with the Staff, a spoof of ABC’s popular “Dancing with the Stars” show, takes place Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy Room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.


BHSU Theatre and Music departments collaborate on production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”
Thursday, February 13, 2014 The Black Hills State University Theatre and Music departments will present “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown.” Performances are Thursday, Feb. 20 – Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m. in the Pangburn Hall Theatre.

BHSU student photographer documents daily life of troops in Afghanistan

The Black Hills State University photography student Julieanne Morse from Spearfish recently returned from a nine-month deployment with South Dakota’s National Guard 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment where she teamed up with a broadcast journalist and documented the daily lives of the troops.



BHSU honorary alumna Johanna Meier receives Lifetime Achievement Opera Award
Wednesday, February 12, 2014 Johanna Meier, internationally recognized opera star from Spearfish and Black Hills State University honorary alumnus, was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Opera Association in New York City. The award recognizes Meier’s outstanding career achievement and her continuing presence in the education of young singers.

BHSU to host guest pianist Susanne Skyrm

Internationally recognized pianist Dr. Susanne Skyrm will present an afternoon of music from Spain at Black Hills State University Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Hall.
