Project SECOND is designed for mature students who lives in rural areas without easy access to a college campus or those with full time work commitments.  This on-line certification is designed to provide the coursework and field experience for adults seeking teacher certification at the secondary level (7-12 grades) in South Dakota   We prepare students who want to teach in their local school district and will have a high probability of being hired when they finish their certification requirements.  Candidates should discuss their opportunity to student teach with the local school principal before considering Project SECOND, however, the  final student teaching placement is arranged by the Director of Field Experiences at BHSU.
