About
To document their accomplishments, pre-service teacher candidates and practicing teachers use professional portfolios, which serve as tools for authentic assessment. In the College of Education, professional portfolios also serve to monitor pre-service teacher candidates’ progress through heir professional development.
At BHSU, the student’s professional portfolio is a collection of artifacts and reflections documenting the student’s competence and professional growth. Artifacts are tangible pieces of evidence selected from coursework and field experiences which demonstrate the student’s knowledge and skills in accordance with the ten Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) Standards. The INTASC Standards consist of ten statements describing what a new teacher should know and be able to do. The successful completion of your professional portfolio demonstrates your preparation for teaching in the 21st century.
