BHSU Project Select FAQS

EditWho is Project SELECT designed to serve?

Project Select is designed to provide the coursework and field experience for students seeking teacher certification as secondary (7-12 grades) teachers within a 10 month time frame.

Candidates must have either their content coursework completed or have a baccalaureate degree in a major.

EditHow do I qualify?

Candidates who qualify to apply to Project SELECT must have either their completed their content coursework OR have a baccalaureate degree in a teaching major.

Content coursework completion means having successfully completed, with a GPA of 2.7 or greater, all coursework in your discipline (e.g. Biology, English, Mathematics, etc).

A baccalaureate degree in a teaching major means having successfully completed, with a GPA of 2.7 or greater, a baccalaureate degree in teaching major (e.g. Biology, English, Mathematics, etc.) OR receive pass scores on a Praxis II Content Exam in the area in which you wish to seek certification. For example, if you have a degree in engineering, you could take the Praxis II Content Exam in Physics, receive a pass score and qualify. Specific cases will need to be addressed in detail with program directors.

EditWhen does the program start and end?

The program begins in mid August and ends in June. It is approximately 10 months in duration.

EditWhat is the time commitment required of students in this program?

This is a FULL time program.  The coursework involved includes 41 credits.  You are asked to think of yourself as a teacher during this time frame, which means thinking of committing 8 hours a day during these 10 months to complete all coursework and field experience. Schedules will follow public school calendars, in general, with some evening commitments as scheduled during the year.

• South Middle Schools

EditWhy is the program in Rapid City?
