BHSU K-12 Special Education Program

Do you want to be highly employable and personally satisfied with your career?  The special education program at Black Hills State University is a blend of both on-campus and online courses. This program will prepare you to become a certified special education teacher in grades K-12.  A degree in special education consists of special education core classes and teaching core classes.  For teachers who have already completed a teaching degree and are currently working, BHSU also offers a special education endorsement online.

Our special education faculty members have outstanding clinical experience to share with students.  Students who complete their special education program at BHSU have an opportunity to work for some of the most highly regarded clinicians in the state.  You can further your education outside of the classroom through several student groups, including special education advocacy groups and honors societies.

The BHSU elementary and special education programs can be combined, providing you with the options that will increase your marketability.  With a little planning, you can graduate with a degree in both special and elementary education with the addition of just one summer session.  If you’re already teaching, check out our special education endorsement online.
