More than 400 candidates will be recognized for graduation during Black Hills State University’s 165th commencement ceremony Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. in the Donald E. Young Sports and Fitness Center. Candidates for the spring 2013 BHSU graduation include 45 master’s degree candidates, 362 bachelor’s candidates and 22 associate degree candidates.

For three years, Black Hills State University student Anna Hafele and Dr. Andy Johnson, assistant professor of physics, have been researching students’ understanding of radiation and radioactivity and how to modify classroom instruction to enhance that understanding. The culmination of their research will now be one of 60 projects presented at the upcoming Council on Undergraduate Research’s (CUR) Posters on the Hill event in Washington, D.C.
BHSU students work with researchers studying wolves Minnesota’s Northwoods

A group of Black Hills State University biology and outdoor education students spent the beginning of their spring semester getting face to face with the wolves of Minnesota’s Northwoods. Six undergraduate and one graduate student participated in a program at the Audubon Center of the North Woods in Sandstone, Minn., which allowed the students to learn tracking and observation techniques to study wolves, and other large predator animals, and their environment.
