The Public Relations emphasis at BHSU focuses on developing writing skills and creative, strategic thinking. You will gain competencies in legal and ethical issues related to the profession of managing relationships between organizations and the public.
The responsibilities of public relations professionals are varied, and may include writing press releases, newsletters, brochures/pamphlets, memorandums and various scripts and ad copy. In addition, you will support your work through important research and creative thinking in the design of communication campaigns with mass media. Knowledge and skill in use of advancing technologies, such as social media, is applied to connect organizations to organizations and organizations with the public.
You will gain valuable, practical experiences that supplement classroom instruction by actively participating in the award-winning campus newspaper and other university organizations. Opportunities for internships are also offered by many off-campus local, regional, and national firms.
Students in this program can look forward to careers with PR and advertising/marketing firms, government agencies, and non-profit organizations and corporations.
Along with the student-run newspaper - Jacket Journal - and campus converged media website BHSUbuzz.com, other organizations such as the University Programming Team, 89.1 KBHU, and KBHU-TV, prepare those going into this field by offering on-campus projects on a regular basis.
