Student Success after Graduation

What do our graduates do after leaving BHSU?

  • Reeve Evers (2003) - Reeve is a student at the Illinois College of Optometry.
  • Shawn McColley (2003) - Shawn worked on a number of research projects dealing with volcanoes on Earth, Mars and Venus, and is now pursuing a PhD in Planetary Geology at Brown University.

  • Lennard Hopper (2002) - Lenny is attending the University of Nebraska School of Dentistry.
  • Sarah Herrin (2003) - Sarah was a BRIN undergraduate research fellow at BHSU working with Shane Sarver and Cynthia Anderson on the genetics of the American dipper. She is now in the graduate program at the University of Minnesota.
  • Jonathan Schumacher (2002) - worked with Shane Sarver on the population genetics of finescale dace while an undergraduate at BHSU. He has earned a Master's degree in Pathology from the University of Utah, Department of Pathology in the School of Medicine. He is currently working in Molecular Hematopathology Research and Development for ARUP Laboratories in Salt Lake City.
  • Kelly Stock Larson (2002) - Kelly is attending USD's School of Medicine.
  • Paul Colbert (2002) - Paul presented his research on the ecology of the lizards of Antigua at national meetings in 2002, along with his collaborator, Jason Kolbe from Washington University. Jason and Paul won an award for best student research at these meetings. Paul is now at Iowa State University working on turtle ecology for his master's degree.
  • Brett Theeler (2001) - is a medical student at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.
  • Ryan Baum(2000) - Ryan worked with Dr. Smith in Antigua in 1999 and 2000 and traveled to Mexico to present research at an international conference in 2000. He is finishing a master's degree in Geographical Information Systems at Idaho State University.
  • Moon Jarvis Hemeyer (1999) - Moon is a practicing physical therapist in Spearfish and Deadwood.
  • Todd Russell (1999) - Todd is employed as an air quality specialist with the State of Iowa where he studies the concentrations of fine particulate matter for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
  • Chris Ewert (1998) - Chris recently graduated with a M.S. in Environmental Science from the Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology. Chris is now employed with Buys and Associates of Littleton, Colorado where he works as an environmental specialist dealing with the oil and gas industry.
  • Dr. Jesse Dana (1997) - Jesse attended dental school at Nebraska School of Dentistry and is a practicing orthodontist in Spearfish.
  • Dr. Jennifer Mercer (1997) - Jen accepted a prestigious internship for the summer of 1997 at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Massachusetts where she conducted research on oceanic volcanism with Dr. Tracy Gregg, one of the nation's top researchers in this area. In the fall of 1998, Jen spent 6 weeks at sea off the coast of Hawaii studying ocean floor geology along the Puna Ridge. Jennifer recently received her Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at Dartmouth. Jen is now working on a post-doctoral research position at the University of Wyoming studying ozone depletion in Antarctica.
  • David Finnegan (1997) - Dave received his M.S. at Indiana State University where he studied sedimentation processes in volcanic areas using remote sensing. He is now employed by the Cold Regions Research Laboratory in New Hampshire, and is involved in planetary mapping and remote sensing of hydrologic systems.
