Recently we asked Ben Reiter, a senior Political Science major, a few questions about his experience here at BHSU. This is what he said...
Why did you choose BHSU?
I choose BHSU because of its great location, beautiful campus, and perfect size.
Why did you choose Political Science?
I have always been interested in how diverse groups of people come together to make decisions that shape the world. BHSU’s Political Science program offered me the best opportunity to study that.
In your experience, what do you see as the most beneficial aspect of the BHSU Political Science program?
Without a doubt, the Political Science professors here at BHSU make the program. Their seemingly limitless knowledge, astute analysis, and desire to help their students excel both in the classroom and in the world is incredible.
Have you been involved in any Political Science related organizations, programs, or internships that have enhanced your experience at BHSU?
Following my sophomore year of college, I interned on the U.S. Senate’s Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee of the ranking member Senator Mike Enzi (WY). In many of my political science courses we study the American system of government in a somewhat abstract manner. However, this internship allowed me to witness and even participate in the governing process. I am also in the BHSU Pre Law Association. It is been very helpful to meet fellow students that are considering law school and get advice from professors that have already attended law school.
What do you plan to do in the future after graduation?
Immediately after graduation I plan to attend graduate school. Perhaps a little further down the road I would like to attend law school. My actual career plans are less clear. However, I am sure that my career will, at least in some way, involve politics.
What advice would you give to incoming Political Science students?
I would advise incoming political science students to work hard and seek out their professors. The professors at BHSU love to advise and assist their students—especially ones that are dedicated to their courses.
