Career options with a degree in Accounting

A bachelor's degree in professional accountancy provides you with the knowledge to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  This degree significantly enhances both salary and advancement potential for new accounting professionals and opens a variety of doors both in the private and public sectors of the global economy.  Today’s CPAs have numerous career opportunities in addition to public accountancy.  These include, but are not limited to, comprehensive personal financial planning, forensic accounting, white-collar crime specialist, and senior officer positions with multi-national enterprises (MNEs)

CPAs are in high demand.  In recent years, three factors have combined to drive a higher demand for CPAs:

  • Renewed focus on business ethics
  • Business in global economy
  • New technology

There are many other specialty disciplines that have evolved within the accounting profession as well.  Some of these include:

  • Audit and assurance
  • Consulting services
  • Internal auditing
  • International auditing
  • Alternate dispute resolution
  • Teaching and research
