Sociology at BHSU offers our majors many options and variety for use in their professional and personal lives.
Dr. Laura Colmenero-Chilberg
The Sociology program at Black Hills State University focuses on the study of social life, social change, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. With a sociology major, you will be provided with a solid academic preparation utilizing small class sizes, personal access to professors, interesting courses, and opportunities for travel to regional and national conferences where you can present your own research. Because sociology addresses the most challenging issues of our time, it is a rapidly expanding field with potential that is increasingly tapped by those who craft policies and create programs.
As part of the BHSU Sociology program, you will be expanding your social awareness, gaining skills that will benefit you in your professional and personal life, developing critical thinking skills and learning how all of these characteristics will help you create a successful life once you have graduated. While only college professors call themselves “sociologists,” the preparation provided in a sociology undergraduate program at BHSU supplies a background that can lead to employment in many different fields.
