Get Involved: Join Clubs, Organizations, or Be Part of an Internship

Clubs and Organizations:
There are several clubs and organizations in which outdoor education students participate. The university-sponsored club is the Collegiate Outdoor Leadership Program. This is the student-led organization for outdoor education majors and other outdoor enthusiasts. Each year, these students plan outdoor outings, service projects, and social events.

Community and professional organizations include the BHSU chapter of the National Association of Interpretation and the Black Hills Nordic Club. In addition, students can participate in programs sponsored by the campus Adventure Center. These activities and clubs provide a variety of professional and social opportunities.

Internships:
As part of the Outdoor Education program you will be involved with an internship program. This internship will help you link classroom learning with real-life experience, and provide the bridge between college and that important first job. Our internship coordinator helps you explore your interests and match them with an internship experience.

I had a dream of working at a national park ever since I was a kid. Through my internship in the Outdoor Education program that BHSU has to offer, I was able to achieve that life dream by working at Badlands National Park as an Interpretive Guide for a summer.
