Clubs and Organizations:
There are several clubs and organizations in which outdoor education students participate. The Collegiate Outdoor Leadership Program is the student-led organization for outdoor education majors and other outdoor enthusiasts. COLP student leaders plan and lead outdoor outings, service projects, and social events. There are numerous recreational clubs that take advantage of our beautiful outdoor setting, click here for a current list of clubs and organizations. The Student Engagement Center sponsors Leadership Development workshops and retreats so you can develop your skills and ability to make a difference.
Make a Difference Scholarship:
Outdoor Education Majors can apply for a generous scholarship and stipend in support of a project they develop to “Make a Difference” in the community. See Make a Difference Initiative.
As part of the Outdoor Education program you will be involved with an internship program. This internship will help you link classroom learning with real-life experience, and provide the bridge between college and that important first job. Our internship coordinator helps you explore your interests and match them with an internship experience.

I had a dream of working at a national park ever since I was a kid. Through my internship in the Outdoor Education program that BHSU has to offer, I was able to achieve that life dream by working at Badlands National Park as an Interpretive Guide for a summer.
The BHSU Outdoor Education program is situated in the beautiful Black Hills, near world-class rock climbing and mountain biking, and with close access to streams, forests, and trails.
