Jenna Nagel, a senior Mass Communication major from Rapid City, SD, recently completed a photography internship for the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development. Her internship ran from May 10th through August 18th, as she traveled across South Dakota to various festivals and events.
Jenna spent her summer taking pictures of people at events, as well as attractions and scenic areas across the state. Nagel's internship offered her an opportunity to learn from her supervisor, Chad Coppess, senior photographer for the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development. Jenna believes her internship "has been a great learning experience because of the many hands-on opportunities". Each week provided a new location, lighting, subjects, composition, etc. "I really have great freedom to experiment with many different shooting styles and equipment. This internship has been the most valuable experience I have had in furthering my photography abilities. I am very grateful to have had this opportunity!"
Nagel’s images represent the diverse landscape, culture, and attractions the state has to offer. Nagel’s photograph of the Northern Lights received national attention this summer when it was picked up by MSNBC.
