The Journalism emphasis at BHSU offers classes focusing on the comprehensive theory and practice of news writing and editing to prepare you for professional positions in the field. The program focuses on the development of essential writing and reporting skills, as well as researching, organizing, critical thinking, and analysis abilities. You will also gain competencies in legal and ethical standards related to the press.

You will gain valuable practical experiences that supplement classroom instruction by actively participating in the development and production of the award-winning campus newspaper the Jacket Journal, which is a member of the Associated Scholastic Press.

To meet the rapidly changing technological needs of the field, students will also participate in the production of BHSUbuzz.com, a converged campus media website also featuring social media.

Opportunities for internships are also offered by many off-campus, local, regional, and national publications.
