Join us for a vocal recital presented by former BHSU music student Tyler Raad. This performance will take place in Clare & Josef Meier Hall.
Tyler Raad is an active performer and musician in the Fargo area. He is a three-time NATS finalist in South Dakota, winning First place in 2008 and 2009, and a semi-finalist in Minnesota in 2011. He has performed on several professional stages including the Black Hills Players where he was featured in shows like Godspell (Jesus), Oklahoma (Curly), and Mousetrap (Sgt. Trotter); the Black Hills Playhouse in their production of Return to the Forbidden Planet (Cookie); and most recently at the Fargo-Moorhead Opera in La Cenerentola (chorus). He has also been featured on collegiate and regional stages in productions of Dido and Aeneas (Aeneas) and Amahl and the Night Visitors (Kaspar). Tyler was given scholarship to the Johanna Meier Institute for the summers of 2008 and 2009 where he performed in the roles of Frederic (Pirates of Penzance) and Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus). There he received coaching from Johanna Meier, Dr. John Stuart, and Bruce Donell. He has also been their production assistant for the last two years and has been offered stage manager for summer 2012. He studied voice in the studio of Dr. Nancy Roberts and obtained his bachelors in both music and theatre performance in May of 2011 from Black Hills State University. Tyler was given an assistantship to North Dakota State University in August of 2011 where he is currently studying voice in the studio of Dr. Robert Jones and is pursuing a masters degree in vocal performance. He will graduate spring of 2013. In addition to performing, Tyler enjoys all aspects of the theatre and has experience in light design, scenic design/construction, and audio engineering. He loves to direct and choreograph and has experience in both. Above all else, he loves to teach private voice and aspires to expand his studio.
