The Black Hills State University Bookstore and the BHSU Visual Arts held the 2009 Art Fair on Thursday, October 1st. The event took place in the Jacket Legacy Room in the BHSU Student Union and featured art supply vendors from across the country promoting, demonstrating, and selling their latest products at greatly reduced prices. Workshops with regional artists, such as Lynn Thorpe, Sarah Rogers, and Mike Knutson, were held throughout the day.
     At this year’s art fair, students from high schools in the area were invited to participate in a regional on-line juried art exhibition. Spearfish and Belle Fourche participated by entering some great work. First place was awarded to Spearfish student Hannah Parrett while Belle Fourche's Stephanie Johnson took second and Carly Schmidt of Spearfish took third. The Art Vendor's Choice Award went to Belle Fourche artist Elfie Grusing.
