Call for Art
All current MFA graduate candidates. MFA: Now ‘current collapse’ is a juried exhibition with the aim of promoting dialogue while highlighting the current art making practices of MFA candidates from across the country. This exhibition is intended to be an annual reference revealing connections to current graduate students, and the programs they work within, marking a meaningful step further into the art world. The exhibition is intended to celebrate MFA candidates’ exceptional curiosity, creativity, and inventiveness, an inventiveness focused in an area of concentration and contemplation, further situating their work within the larger discourse which characterizes the practice of art today.
Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional visual arts 2d and 3d media applicable to the theme. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works which address the theme ‘current collapse’ in some considerable way. Open to all media and all genre (abstract, narrative, realism, conceptual, etc.)
Maximum object height 8 feet. Large scale works/installations and works with video projection, neon, or other
electrical requirements must be clearly outlined with submission materials.
Crated work cannot exceed 82” (h) x 70”(w) (Modularly-packed larger
works are allowed)
The Ruddell Gallery’s selection process involves a two-part system. This exhibit will be juried by an anonymous 3-member panel of Black Hills State University faculty and academic advisors with a broad range of expertise relative to visual art and design. The jury will then pass along their recommendations to the gallery director who will make the final selections from the jury-approved pool.

$30 for up to three entries submitted. $10 per each additional entry. Number of entries is unlimited. Fees are non-refundable. Entry fee must be made payable to Black Hills State University, by credit card. Pay Online - Additional Entry Fee.
The image files should be in HIGH QUALITY JPEG format, images should be no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction and be exactly 72dpi. This should result in most image files ranging from 700KB to 2MB in file size (this is approximate). Files should be in JPEG format, not TIFF, PDF, RAW, etc., and should be in full color (not grayscale).
Be ABSOLUTELY sure you are sending files at the correct size and that your email app. does not automatically downsize the attached images when sending.
All entry files must be named with artist's last name (underscore) first name, followed by the entry number as noted in the email entry (i.e. Smith_Paul_1.jpg). Please DO NOT include any other information in the file name, such as title of work, etc.
Delivery and Return of Work
All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted work that differs significantly from the entry images or suffers from poor presentation, will be disqualified. Please note that professional-level presentation and craftsmanship is a must.
Artists are responsible for roundtrip crating/shipping costs. Shipped works must be sent in an easily reusable container/packaging with return shipping prepaid. Works will be returned in the same manner as delivered or via UPS/USPS. All work must arrive at the Ruddell by the specified date (see calendar below). Accepted work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. The artists are responsible for all shipping costs to and from the gallery. Please note that international shipping is not an option for this open call.
