The Master of Science in Secondary Education degree provides preparation for post baccalaureate secondary teacher certification. It is designed for individuals with bachelor’s degrees from accredited colleges or universities that can lead to secondary content teaching areas.
Many working adults desire career changes and are interested in becoming middle school and high school teachers. They have bachelor’s degrees and would find it hard to commit three or four semesters to completion of a traditional teacher preparation program. This 35-credit degree program allows them to become fully certified and complete a master’s degree within one year. The master’s degree can be pursued via either of two routes, the face-to-face Project SELECT option or the online Project SECOND option.
Project SELECT is an accelerated 10-month certification option offered face to face . The field-based environment embraces the philosophy of theory into practice, providing immediate active learning experiences supported through coaching by highly trained professionals. A printable information sheet is available. For more information, contact Dr. Susan D’Aniello at Susan.Daniello@BHSU.edu.
Project SECOND is also an accelerated program but allows students to complete coursework online and have student teaching arranged in or near their home locations. Most people complete Project SECOND in twelve to fifteen months, with mentoring and consent support provided by highly qualified professional educators. A printable information sheet is available. For more information, contact Dr. Liz Fayer at Liz.Fayer@BHSU.edu.
Persons wanting post baccalaureate secondary teacher certification at the undergraduate level should contact either Dr. Fayer or Dr. D’Aniello to explore an undergraduate plan of study.
