Black Hills State University’s high percentage of Native American students prompted Boulder, Colo., resident Joscelyn Blumenthal to donate $10,000 to establish an endowment fund that will be used for scholarships for Native American students.
Three years after joining Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society, Black Hills State University was recognized as a Chapter of Merit.
Dr. Pat SimpsonDr. Pat Simpson has been named dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Black Hills State University.

More than 30 Black Hills State University students and several student organizations were honored during the 20th Annual Student Volunteer Awards Celebration. 

BHSU will offer a graduate certificate program in Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management beginning in Fall 2012. The entirely online program is designed for leaders who manage critical incidents relating to transportation disasters, natural and manmade catastrophes, violent situations, terrorism and homeland security, or similar events.

Black Hills State University recently recognized and honored the service, dedication, and achievements of BHSU student leaders, volunteers, and organization advisors during the 19th Annual Student Volunteer Awards Celebration.

Dr. Kristi Pearce has been named interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Black Hills State University. Pearce, a longtime faculty member and administrator at the University, has served as associate vice president for Academic Affairs since 2007.

The Black Hills State University Honors Program has grown significantly since it was established on campus in 2003. From fall 2003 to fall 2010 the program, which offers highly motivated students a challenging and enriching education, has grown 125 percent.

Black Hills State University shattered all previous enrollment records this fall with a 16 percent increase in enrollment and an all-time high of 4,722 students.

Black Hills State University generates $59.8 million a year in immediate economic impact to South Dakota and approximately $190.6 million a year in the long run according to an economic impact study that was just released.
