Thomas J. Deis, Sr. Vice President, Manager of Pioneer Bank and Trust presented a $10,000 check to Steve Meeker, Vice President of Advancement at BHSU recently. The gift completes a $50,000 pledge made by Pioneer Bank and Trust for Clarkson Memorial Scholarships.
Four Black Hills State University students are being recognized for their accomplishments by Student Support Services (SSS).
Enrollment at Black Hills State University increased
this semester. Areas with the strongest increases are transfer students (up 40
percent) and high school students taking Dual Credit courses (up 70 percent).
South Dakota’s Secretary of State, Shantel Krebs, will present a free workshop, “Filing Requirements,” at the Spearfish Holiday Inn on Tuesday, March 8, 1:30-3:30 p.m. This workshop is hosted by the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity, SD CEO, at Black Hills State University.

The Black Hills State University Ruddell Gallery opened an exhibition of paintings capturing moonscapes and various different landscapes. The guest artist and author of the paintings is Patrick Kikut, who follows his passion to portray the beauty of the landscape - above and on the earth.
The exhibition “Square States and Moonscapes,” will be displayed in the gallery until March 3. The Ruddell Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Donald Trump’s quote, “Show me someone without an ego, and I’ll show you a loser,” sets a good example of what narcissism is, however the topic itself holds more complexity, which will be discussed at the next Black Hills State University Geek Speak lecture.
Dr. Jeffrey Wehrung, assistant professor of management at BHSU, will examine how narcissism can affect an individual's leadership and ethical behavior, taking the character of Dr. Who, a British science fiction character produced by BBC, as an example. Wehrung’s presentation, “The Narcissistic Doctor? Leadership, Ethics, and Dr. Who” is Thursday, Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. in Jonas Hall, room 110. The event is free and open to the public.
Known as the Super Bowl of advertising as well as the most watched football game, during Super Bowl 50 this Sunday watch for an ad created by Black Hills State University student Allison Geier. Geier’s ad is scheduled to be shown during the fourth quarter of the game.
The Black Hills State University Underground Campus at Sanford Underground Research Facility was featured recently in Symmetry Magazine, an online publication about particle physics.
Black Hills State University is ready to kick off its spring musical season. A variety of concerts, events and competitions with various genres of music are scheduled throughout the semester, and BHSU music faculty say there is something for everyone.
The first event this spring, the Jeanne Higgins Memorial Showcase Concert, is Saturday, Feb. 6 in Meier Recital Hall 8 p.m., starting with a social hour at 7 p.m.
Five Black Hills State University students and one alum spent two weeks in northern Minnesota this month, completing what they say was a “life-changing” experience through studying wildlife in their natural habitats.
The students enrolled in the Wolves and North Woods Carnivores: Predatory Ecology course at the Audubon Center of the Northern Hills in Sandstone, Minn., where they studied the ecology of grey wolves and other mammals in Northern Minnesota. In addition, students learned essential wildlife survival skills and physical and technological skills to track the wildlife.
Black Hills State University will host an awards ceremony Thursday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in the Joy (Proctor) Krautschun Alumni/Foundation Welcome Center to honor the student finalists in the “Where Anything is Possible” tagline contest.
