Black Hills State University will host a premier one-day leadership simulcast Friday, May 8 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall on the BHSU campus. Included in the speaker lineup are prominent leaders such as former prime minister of the United Kingdom, Tony Blair; and best selling author of The Fred Factor, Mark Sanborn.
Dr. Kristi L. Pearce, BHSU associate vice president for Academic Affairs, was elected to serve a three-year term on the board of directors for The Collaboration for the Advancement of College Teaching and Learning.
The Black Hills State University Rodeo Team will host the second annual Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede Rodeo Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. The Cowboys and Candlelight dinner and auction will be held Saturday evening at the Holiday Inn in Spearfish.
Kent Meyers, associate professor of English at Black Hills State University, will visit three different writing classes at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md. at the end of the month. He will discuss fiction and non-fiction writing, and contemporary literature.
Dr. Lee Pearce, associate professor of education at Black Hills State University, will present his research on the predictors of early reading skills in American Indian youth at the American Educational Research Association in San Diego, Calif.
Micheline Hickenbotham, assistant professor of education at Black Hills State University, and Dr. Andy Johnson, associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Math and Science Education (CAMSE) at BHSU, recently presented at the 17th Annual Joint South Dakota Math & Science Conference in Huron.
Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), a student organization at Black Hills State University, will offer a workshop to educate the public about the importance of credit scores Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m. in Jonas Hall, room 304 on the BHSU campus.
Black Hills State University faculty will be performing a concert of American music on Sunday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. at the Clare & Josef Meier Recital Hall.
The Black Hills State women’s team placed first for the fourth consecutive season at the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) championship on February 22, 2009. The men’s team placed second for the third consecutive year.
Black Hills State University recently received a donation of $125,000 from Black Hills Corporation.
A Legislative Crackerbarrel will be held at Black Hills State University Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. in the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union Jacket Legacy Room. District 31 Legislators Rep. Fred Romkema, R-Spearfish; Sen. Tom Nelson, R-Lead; and Rep. Charles Turbiville, R-Deadwood have been invited to attend and meet with the public.
The music department at Black Hills State University will have a “First Friday” performance showcasing, Kim Ulmen, junior composite instrumental music major from Kadoka, Friday, March 6. She will present, “The Beauty of the Baritone Horn,” at 9:30 a.m. in Meier Hall Room 128.
