More than 100 junior high and high school students from South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska performed in jazz bands and vocal groups at the annual Black Hills Jazz Festival on the Black Hills State University campus recently.

Black Hills State University notified a group of students today that their social security numbers had been temporarily available through a public web page. As soon as university officials were aware that the document was on the website, the document was removed. The information is no longer available.

Black Hills State University staff members Dr. Annette Ryerson, assistant professor of business and technology, and Thomas Dunn, director for the Center of Tourism Research, recently submitted final research findings of two studies to the Yankton Convention and Visitors Bureau and the managers of the Lewis and Clark Recreation Area.

The BHSU Reading Council received numerous accolades at the recent South Dakota Reading Council Conference. For the ninth year, the group received the South Dakota Reading Council’s Golden Seal Award. In addition, several of the council members had the opportunity to present at the conference, two BHSU students received scholarships and three BHSU Reading Council members were elected as officers and committee chairpersons.

Dr. Priscilla Romkema has been named dean of the College of Business and Technology at Black Hills State University. Romkema, who joined the BHSU faculty in 1997, is currently chair of the management and marketing department and will begin her duties as dean this summer.

An international association dedicated to maintaining, protecting, and promoting the quality of educational facilities, APPA represents more than 1,500 learning institutions serving over 4,700 individuals.
